Lunar New Year Envelope DIY {+ FREE printables!}

To celebrate the new year, I wanted to give my family the traditional red paper envelopes with a monetary gift inside. I used to love this part of the new year as a kid! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything authentic in Thunder Bay, which led me to today's easy DIY: handmade lunar new year coin envelopes.

For this DIY, you need a printer, scissors and double sided tape. These envelopes are the perfect size for small hands, and small sums of money (coins, bills, cheques...). The Chinese character on the front says "health". Download your red Lunar New Year envelope here:

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know I finally got myself a Silhouette Cameo and am absolutely smitten with it. I decided to play with the design, including using my family name/character, to create these little happiness-makers:

This very much deserves to be called cute three times. Cute, cute, cuuute. You can, of course, do the same thing with a craft knife and patience... but since I'm in need of an upgrade on both, I used my Silhouette. I really doubt I will cut anything by hand ever again. No more late night hand cramping for me. Hoorah!

I hope to have a lot more Lunar New Year goodness to share with you come Monday. For now, have a happy new year's eve!
